How to choose the right travel eSIM

The same amount of data can cost very different amounts depending on the provider. Comparing Saily, Yesim, Airalo and Agoda side by side shows you the best value for your destination, and Destination.chat sends you straight to the provider at its normal price.

Check your phone first: it must support eSIM and be unlocked. Then compare the data allowance, the number of days, whether hotspot is allowed and whether the plan covers one country or a whole region.

If you visit several countries, a regional plan for Europe or Asia usually costs less than separate plans. Buy a little more data than you think you need, or choose a plan you can top up during the trip.

Travel eSIM FAQ

What is an eSIM?

A digital SIM card. An eSIM is a SIM built into your phone. You install a data plan by scanning a QR code or through the provider's app, with no plastic card to insert.

Does my phone support eSIM?

Most recent phones do. Most recent iPhones, Google Pixels and Samsung Galaxy phones support eSIM. Check your phone's settings or the provider's compatibility list, and make sure the phone is unlocked.

Can I keep my own number?

Usually, yes. You can keep your main SIM active for calls and texts and use the eSIM for data. Turn off data roaming on your main SIM to avoid extra charges.

When should I install the eSIM?

Before you travel. Install it at home over Wi-Fi, then switch it on when you arrive. Many plans only start when you first connect to a network at your destination.

Do I book on Destination.chat or with the provider?

With the provider. You choose a plan here and buy it on the provider's own website or app. Payment, activation, support and refunds are handled by that company.

Does it cost more to buy through Destination.chat?

No. You pay the provider's normal price. Some links are affiliate links, so we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you.
